before condemning the chain/valves etc...a few questions...
1. What's the known service history of this motor? How many miles? Does the Timing Chain rattle?
2. Head gasket blew...why? If it's 2.1...then we already know why. Plain the head and it'll be fine.
3. I have NEVER "had" to do a 16Valve "valve job" in over 600000 miles of driving these cars...this can be expensive and once you go there you should do valve guides and seats as well once all is apart. Pitting?...you'd probably habve other symptoms and your compressions are good.
4. Timing chain is probably fine...it's the chain guides that wear and this alone can extend that tensioner...I personally would never put in a new chain on old cracked up guides and would rather pull the motor and do the whole job properly, not just the chain(just my opinion).
My current 85 900T has 280K...it got to 235K before a timing chain was needed and I did a head gasket as preventive maintenence at the time. These motors are WELL capable of 300K plus if well maintained...sometimes they get there even if not that well maintained!
