'Tuning'? Please define. Define the starting point, and where you inteld to get to.

Yeah, there's some things you can do to - what - a 5-liter Mustang for $5-600 - but it starts off at a pretty low state of tune to begin with. You won't do much to one of the later mod-motor cars for $500. You can throw a couple things at a base WRX for that money, but there's not much you can do to an STi in that budget that really represents an improvement.

You won't do much to a late-model 'Vette for that money, nor any but the most common/lowest-end BMWs. You certainly won't do anything useful to a Merc for anything close to that, and anyone who says they can is going to trash the car.

The Powerchips DME flash for my M5 was $900 by itself. No hardware. The net power increase was just about nil, but the throttle response is much better. I've got $4000 worth of Stoptech brakes sitting on the shelf ready to go on the car when I put the Dinan Stage 3 suspension bits on, but the brakes won't fit with the OE rear wheels so that's another chunk of change. Then there's the $1500 Eisenmann mufflers that's next on the list...
