It would be difficult to quantify the percentage of Saab owners who would-be or are interested in ECU tuning, I believe that probably is pretty small.
Same with other car makes too possibly. For M5's, which seem to be slightly less expensive to buy Stage 1 software-for, I can easily see that a larger relative percentage of owners would be performance inclined compared to typical Saab owners---but what percentage would actually take the trouble to leap and mod the ECU on a 60-80K(?) car that is pretty maxed-out already? Maximum: if every single M5 owner of all possible engine combinations purchased ecu tuning, distributed across reputable M5 tuning companies, are the volume numbers even close? Maybe they're not.
Regardless, I've got to think that after you're at the level of an M5 cost probably isn't the deciding factor in the decision to mod or not, and still, it's a little less expensive if an owner is inclined to do-so. Competition could likely be the cause of that.
