As a car buff/lawyer...

I prefer keeping them separate. Hobby's are great things, but when they become the entirety of your life, then they tend to lose their luster.
For me, I've always (since a youngster) wanted to be either an attorney or a race car driver. One of the happiest days of my life was during law school, driving in my first autocross race. Imagine life as a mechanic or engineer, could you see doing it all the time? Would you want to? I like being the car and technology guy in my firm. Having worked as a programmer/consultant for Andersen Consulting (NKA Accenture), I find practicing law much more enjoyable. I like what I do very much and at this point, I can't imagine doing something else as being an attorney is so much of who I am.
I cannot offer you any specific advice as I don't know you, but I will tell you this, law school is a difficult process that most folks hate(myself included) and my recommendation is that you choose not to attend law school unless you are convinced that practicing law is what you want to do with your life. Otherwise the 3 years of school are too long, too frustrating and too expensive to wind up doing something else.
