and while I don't regret the knowledge and ability to work on my own cars, if I had to do it for money again i would NOT be happy.

Unless you're able to fit yourself into a high-performance niche, the majority of 'fix it cuz it ain't runnin' repairs are a drag. People are notoriously cheap and ignorant about cars...they think that once the car is paid for that's it, and any expense other than gas is because the car is a piece of crap. They don't believe me when I tell them ' a used car takes about 200 bux a month to keep running right.' Even though I loved/love working on cars, I just remember being under the hood of a customers car and thinking 'I can't wait til I can get paid using my head and not my hands'.

After I got out of school I went to work as a developer for Rollerblade, then some other skate manufacturers, then I got brave and started a couple wheel brands of my own. Let me tell ya, working for yourself is great, but after about 5 years of THAT stress, I packed it in and went to work as the sales manager for the company that I was a customer of.

Even though I have a technical background, i LOVE sales. Flexible hours, work from home 90% of the time, great income....Find the thing you like to talk about and go sell it. I work at MOST two hours a day and I made right around six figs last year, after busting ass and not making much for a couple years, you can cruise ad things will run themselves if you get in the right industry. Work for me is a way to get the most money in the least possible time so I can do things I WANT to do. A long time ago I just decided I wasn't too interested in being fulfilled or defining myself thru my work, I just wanted the money :)
