Off the top of my head here are a few issues I could think of.
Your going to have to remove both axles entirely to have enough clearance to drop the tranny straight down just some more bolts to remove,
the radiator will have to come out to pull the input shaft.
the lower crossmember/skid plate will have to be removed
You will need to suspend the entire engine as both the front and one side mount will have to be removed. Since the front mount hangs over the front crossmember you are going to have to tilt the tranny at a pretty good angle to get it to drop out.
then even if you get it out with no problems reattaching it from below while trying to balance it on a floor jack with or without a cradle is going to be a huge hassle.
The whole unit was designed for easy removal from the top just getting to some of the engine/tranny bolts is going to be a frustrating. It sucks that you dont have a place for a dedicated engine hoist but there must be a way you could set up some sort of stationary overhead chain hoist or something similar where you could roll the car out from under the hanging engine.
Again, no one doubts that this is possible and it has already been done. Maybe if you focus your effort on devising a way to hoist the engine from the top you might find the whole process requireing much less of your effort and time.
So there are a few reasons take em' or leave em' and if I sat here and thought about it I could come up with more. I would say that a real DIYer would pull the tranny from below as they lack the experience to do otherwise.
So whichever path you chose,
good luck,
cutic
