I appreciate your list of concerns. All of them good.
Removing the axles - done it many times, not a problem. A matter of disconnecting tie rods, removing topside control arm bolts and allowing the spindles to roll forward.
Radiator removal/lifting is an easy chore.
Lower crossmember/skid plate - I look forward to removing it.
As far as the front mount being in the way - I'm removing the primary gear case front piece before attempting to lower for exactly that reason.
I have all the tools to get at all the tranny bolts.
I have plans in mind how to prop the engine up while the front mount is disconnected - pieces of wood cut to size bracing it on the side frame members.
I am interested in your comment about removing at least one side engine mount. Please explain further. The only side mount issue I know about is the right side mount support brace which attaches to one of the tranny bolts above the engine block flange. I don't see any reason to disconnect the mount bracket bolts on the head. In fact I'm planning on both side mounts to remain connected. Am I missing something?
The tranny weighs what, 100+ lbs? Wrestling with it while on a 2 ton wheeled jack - with a 5/8 plywood flooring providing a smooth clean base, pushing and prodding the weighted jack into place with blocks of wood and a 2 lb hammer should help there.
I forgot one of my favorite pieces of the plan - since the base is solid plywood, to easily slide the weighted jack (tranny balanced on top with custom cradle as support) from it's start position in front of the car to below the engine, I just lift the front of the plywood for a little gravity assist.
