you dont need to do a block off plate
the piston wont pop out or anything
I had a 93 in here that actualy rounded all the teeth off the crank gear so the crank sprocket was just sliping on the chain but the main chain was great so I pulled the pan stuffed rags up in there & sniped the chain with a zip wheel doushed it all out with brake cleaner & re assembled it & its been some time with mo problems at all
a good friend & master tech at the dealer has done this on several occaision as well
