autocross / drag tire question Posted by TML [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I'm looking to get some tires for autocross. I already have drag tires, BF Goodrich T/A drag radials. Please help me answer the following questions:
1. Will competition race tires double as drag tires? I know they probably won't be as good as the drag radials, but I'm guessing they'll be better than any max performance summer tire. Not having to swap tires while at the track would be nice.
1A. Will 17" tires be inherently poorer for dragging than 15" tires? I have heard that the more sidewall between the wheel and the road, the better.
2. Exactly how foolish would it be to mount competition tires only on the front? With my current autocross setup of 4 high performance all season tires, I am getting severe understeer. The front end loses traction in tight corners, the back end never loses traction. The grippier tires on the front will eliminate that, but will it go too far the other way?
3. If the answer to number 2 above is not "extremely foolish", and I decide to get comp tires for the front, would that make the rear sway bar I have on order overkill, or at least superfluous?
Thanks in advance for enlightening me.
