I have a pretty good excuse for the poor 0-60 performance of the new 9-3.
Here it comes. I have driven and ownen NG900's and old 9-3 before and noticed that you can reach 60 mph in second gear. You cannot do that with the 9-3SS. At 55mph you enter red and have to shift. The reason I am looking into this is that I had the chance to drive an 2002 9-3 recently after having my butt for 8 months in my new 9-3SS and noticed that overall the 9-3SS is actually faster. I do not understand why do the 0-60 show bad times but it seems that as it's getting older the 9-3SS is faster.
Now, going back to my theory, a shift requires 0.5 - 0.7 seconds, no matter how fast you are since it takes a bit of time and you also lose momentum. Therefore, this is actually a valid explanation why we get shitty 0-60 mph time on the new 9-3. I believe that an older 9-3SS with only a free flow filter should get 6.2-6.5 seconds 0-55 mph. I will try it myself next summer. I am getting pissed at all those comments on the 0-60 times while I feel the car is actually really alive and kicking.
