My old Passat was generally reliable, but it had wierd things go - ignition switch, clutch pedal weld, motor mounts, water pump, thermostat housing, chain tensioner. None of these generally considered a wear on most cars, but common problems on the Passat.
I once had a V6 Cavalier that was constantly on the back of a tow truck for warranty items.
In 9 months I haven't had any driveability issues with my 04 9-3. As for resale and reliability, I haven't heard of any reliability issues with Infiniti's Q45. But resale....
