I think Mike Lynch might be missing the issue. Let's use a BMW 325i (2003) as an example. With the premium package (sunroof, power seats, cd player, upgraded interior) the MSRP might have in fact been well north of 37k. But with haggling in the real world you could have bought this car for around 31K. You could have bought a vector (with a 35k sticker) for about 27. That is a 5k dif (duh). If you decided to sell the bmw today (assuming 30k miles and in the same shape as a used vector with same miless) you could get an easy 25k. You would be lucky to get 21 for the vector. Now the difference is 4k. But with the bmw you would get 2 more years of full mainetencance - - everything form brake rotors to windshiel wipers up to 50k. which deal is better? Wharton graduates please weigh in.
