I can't buy new US Saab for import to Canada????

Just got off the phone with Saab USA and was told that I can't buy a new Saab and import it into Canada. WHY!!?? I was told that they would be risking their dealership if they did so. I also then asked if I could buy a used car from them. She said that I would have to ask the dealer as she wasn't sure.
Example of US vs CDN pricing is: 2008 Aero Sportcombi (same config MSRP)
CDN: $48,990
US: $38,690
Duty will be charged on sale value, but even taking into consideration duty on MSRP we come to a difference of $7,939.91 (dollar is pretty well at par these days).
So now I've got to check with a few dealers to see what the real "deal" is. Likely I will have to look for a used 9-3 or just reconsider what my next car will be. Sad thing is that the difference in pricing (full retail) will be about $8K. BUT you need to factor in the 6.1% duty as well, which brings the difference down. What I've found initially is that pricing seems to be more flexible in the USA. Savings would seem to be a minimum of $5K, even after the cost of going down to pick it up (2.0t sedan or Sportcombi will be my likely choice).
So do I wait until the 2009s are coming in to see if there will be a blowout on the 2008s, or do I look for a good, low mileage 2008 or 2007 in the US? Hmmmmmm, good question.
Got to think it over. Any feedback from the peanut gallery??
Regards,
Theo
