No I’m not paranoid about someone stealing gas – just like to work on projects.
Biggest problem was figuring out how to remove the interior trim to add the lock mechanism. Thanks to Theo for posting the link to saabdocs.com.
Once the trim was removed I could see that the mounting holes for the lock mechanism were still there so it bolted right in. To automatically lock the flap I wired up a simple circuit using a 555 timer IC that puts out a short pulse each time the car is started. Power for this circuit is tapped from the lighter socket in the storage compartment under the center armrest. The circuit is housed in the empty space in front of this compartment and can be accessed by removing the coin holder.
To unlock the flap I installed a small toggle switch in the storage compartment cutout originally intended for an Aux-in connector. Power for this switch is tapped from the +12 side of the glove box light so the flap can be unlocked even if the ignition is off.
Next up – adding a weather band radio using the Aux-in.
Also – could someone please post info on removing the inside plastic frames around the rear door windows – mine are sagging and I’d like to either add some double sided tape or use some adhesive to remedy the situation.
