So you think putting a higher quality and more intuitive base stereo, consolidating the dash controls to simpler and more functional versions, and re-designing the dash so it actually looks MORE like a C900 dash than it EVER DID between 1994 and 2006 is going downhill?

C900 is a great car and I do miss mine (although I don't miss having to monitor all the mechanicals constantly for trouble nor frequently looking under the car for any telltale loss of fluids). But lets not get too rosy regarding the past. While there are plenty of reasons to love that car, it was also known for head gasket failures, weak transmission, rack and pinion problems after 100k, marginal and poorly designed front brakes that were hard to fix, headliners that sagged, dashes that almost always cracked, headlights that fogged, windsheild that was prone to "sand blasting" due to its upright orientation, and a rather lousy stock stereo system.

Also, keep in mind that SAAB was already going downhill when GM took over (although I would agree that they did help put the nail in the coffin with the lousy design and quality of 900 cars produced during the 1994-98 period). Recall that 1986 was their peak sales year (accordin gto NY times). Nonetheless, things started looking up w/ the 93 and despite a rough start in '03-'04 period the 93 SS is a step forward in the evolution to the point of being a very driveable, reliable, and generally nice looking car (both in and out).

Let's face it....everybody is using plastic in cars today...and nobody is developing cars with "soul" or "funk" anymore (maybe wind tunnel testing has put an end to that). So rather than longing for the past, consider comparing the car with what is available at the same cost today and things really don't look so bad.
