Yes, on the '04 verts you want to make sure if it is the earlier vin. The vin range affected by the bad couplers are:
2003-2004 SS models within VIN range 31000003 – 41025886
2004 CV models within VIN range 46000003 - 46008365
I have done trans jobs on two '04 verts within this range which DID have the service campaign completed by Saab to update the couplers. The "real fix" is to replace the entire radiator which I suppose Saab was trying to avoid having to foot the bill for. If you buy one within this range, I would suggest replacing the radiator even if the campaign has been completed.
The 2.0L ecotech engines are solid and pretty DIY able if you want to wrench yourself. The waterpumps are nothing to mess with unless you have the special tool set as they are run off the balance shaft chain. Not nearly as quick or easy as the earlier models. However they usually last quite a while (150k+).
I would suggest waiting for or traveling further a manual trans if you really want one. The auto's are good, but still not the same feel and driving experience as a standard trans. Plus you also eliminate all coolant contamination problems with a manual trans.
