I dont think the key fob problem is not isolated to one specific group of vehicle as they all use the same transponders. Always always have a minimum of two keys, however I recommend three for the '03+ 9-3 models. Case being if you have two and use one daily which say gets damaged or lost. If the vehicle does not recognize the spare on the shelf you have to replace the CIM module along with getting new keys. Having a third spare is cheap insurance as the transponders are less than $50.
From what I understand, occasionally using your spare will help retain the memory and also let you know if it no longer works on your vehicle so your able to get another made.
