Some though provocation:
1) Just because an oil is not certed to meed a given spec does not necessarily mean that it does not actually meet the spec. Certing the oil with the GM/SAE/IMechE/ or otherwise sanctioning bodies is extremely expensive.
2) If you are changing your oil less often than every 10k miles, does it actually need to meet the long life spec? (The long life oils have lots more or more efficient detergent additives, some may argue with you that this is not necessarily better. Do you think any endurance racing cars use a lubricant designed for a long change interval? Or do they use the lubricant with the lowest coeff. of friction? Or do they use the lubricant with the greatest thermal breakdown resistance? Or do they use the lubricant with the lowest viscous losses? Or... or.... or....)
3) Is the car being operated in a cold enough climate this time of year where the difference between the 0w and 10w ratings will matter? The SS comes up to temp so freakin fast that in temperate climates the cold weight rating is likely moot anyway.
4) A leak big enough to cause a drip probably won't slow or increase appreciably with a slight change in fluid weight - you'd have to go to something like a straight 40 or 50 weight oil to see a difference I bet, especially with the (really) tight tolerances on the EcoTech engines.
Best,
Drew
