I have no technical knowledge/experience to answer your question.
I have a 4cyl 2.0T Aero and my auto tranny is great.
In the 90's I had a sporadic trans problem on a diff car (Mazda)that three times the mechanics couldn't replicate or explain.
I kept a small notebook in the car and began documenting all the relavant info each time the anomoly occured. eg... Date/Time; was engine hot/cold; outside temp; speed; mileage; gas tank empty?; any other conditions (in your case, perhaps approximate grade and distance?). I kept the log for about 3 weeks to help mechanics discern if there was a diagnositacally useful pattern.
When I gave them my notes, they kept the car a week and tried to replicate conditions each day. They even had a mechanic take it home for an evening to replicate longer drive/hotter engine conditions (I'm guessing for ins. purposes most dealers won't do this.) After 5 days, they called & told me they finally experienced the problem.
Like I said, I am not mechanically inclined and can't help with the diagnosis, but I thought the process was useful.
