I've heard that noise on 9-3s with the GM black tie radios (2007 and newer). I usually hear it on AM stations. I've never determined the cause. We had one customer ask about it, so I campaired his to another car on the lot and it made the same sound. But on his and the car on the lot, It only did it one of the weaker AM stations he listened to. I just assumed it was the combination of a weak radio signal and other radio interference in the area?

btw. I like your discription of a modem sound. That is a perfect discription. But if I said that to my kids, they wouldn't have a clue to what I was talking about.
