Drove one a bit as a loaner last summer. The extra ground clearance as compared to a normal 9-3 is convenient - you don't need to be paranoid about parking lot stops nor quite as paranoid about curbs. The softer springs that go along with the extra height give a softer ride. Yet despite both of the above, it's still down at regular car height, handles well, and doesn't ride "floaty". If you are looking at a/t, the 6-speed that goes into them spends more time in "torque converter lockup" and allows for lower revs at highway speeds, resulting in fuel economy for the taller, heaver AWD model that pretty well matches that of the FWD model.
The difference in driving the 9-3X vs a regular 9-3, at least in the summer, was pretty minimal.
