It's time consuming since the belt and tensioner has to be removed to be able to remove the timing chain cover and reseat the balance chain tensioner.
Leaving it be would put more stress and wear on the chain and plastic guides.
If you paid for it you should have it corrected unless you suspect more problems will occur with the repair.
Another lurking possibility is that your balance chain, sprockets and guides might be worn and broken already since the first years had some problems and that the timing chain and guides also have some wear at this point so it is a little bit of opening Pandoras box and maybe fix it the right way when it is opened up.
But that certainly puts in a whole different price range maybe around $1500.00 to 2000.00.
