Problems with Homelink

I put in a rear view mirror with the compass/auto dim/homelink garage system. After getting a free kit from Homelink to work with the rolling codes from the new garage system, I finally managed to program my Saab homelink. But the range on it is very low, only works in the garage when I am parked right under it, but not when I am right out front or to the side. (The regular garage door openers reach from part way down the street. What can I do to get the Saab homelink to reach/work?
