Where is the repeater mounted? Posted by Larry West [Email] (#1140) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Larry West) on Mon, 16 Sep 2013 13:30:35 In Reply to: Re: Problems with Homelink, Aaron, Thu, 12 Sep 2013 10:32:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
That would be the first thing I would investigate. Also, is it in a good orientation?
Carefully go over the repeater installation instructions, particularly on location and orientation of the repeater unit. If at all possible (and it isn't already there), mount it to the wall of the garage where the door is.
Orientation could be critical, since if the antenna is not oriented to receive a good signal, you will get problems like you are describing.
Also, if your garage has metal siding, that will attenuate the signal greatly, but that should affect all remotes equally.
Have you checked that what you are experiencing is truly a range issue, and not a time issue? Having a repeater in the mix will likely delay the opening of the door, if only by a little bit. The repeater has to receive and process the signal, and then repeat it to the GDO. This should all take just a very short time.
I'd also take the remote that came with the repeater (the one that you programmed the HomeLink with), and just walk around to see if that unit has the same range issue. If it does, then the problem is either in the location/orientation of the repeater, or, there may be a HomeLink issue that would be more difficult to solve.
