Whoa, just had this problem today with my 2006 Saab 9-3 Convertible.! What an awful problem and it was my own doing.
Last night I got out of my car in my driveway with lots of stuff in my hand. Got to the back door of my house and it was unlocked so I just went in and didn't think of my keys until today. after looking around inside the house, i wondered did I leave them in the car. I checked and there they were sitting in the ignition in the center console. I casually turned the key and nothing happened. I immediately said to myself "dead battery." So I then tried to get the key out of the ignition. Couldn't do it. I then figured I would jump my car and got my jumper cables and opened the hood. The cover was on the battery. Two plastic screws to turn. Where's my tool bag? In the trunk - couldn't open the trunk without the battery working. Found a philips head screw driver drill bit in the house and then got the cover off. My wife and I then checked her Prius to see where her battery is? Where is it? Found it in the bottom right side of the trunk? What is this tiny battery? That will never start my Saab. Called AAA. 45 minutes later then were their and with their portable battery charger, my car started on the second try. The battery only registered 3.5 volts. The car ran really really rough. I drove it down the street to see how it ran --- in LIMP MODE. Little engine icon on my dashboard. I then asked the AAA guy to tow my car to my indy Saab mechanic about two miles from my house. He couldn't do that. Another company had the towing contract with AAA. He called them and 45 minutes later my car was being towed to my indy mechanic. I picked it up a couple of hours later He put in a new battery and then the car ran just fine and the engine icon was gone from my dashboard. $179 for a battery and $30 for my mechanic and another bunch of bucks for taxes.
Well, I won't leave my keys in the ignition again. Fortunately I haven't seen any electronic damage. Just have to reprogram my clock. The radio stations were OK, oddly enough. i wonder if have my iPhone charger plugged into the connector in my console added to the battery issue?
