It's really hard to understand being the 9-3 was to replace the 9-5 eventually. I drive about 600 hwy miles with the 9-5 about every other month and it's pulling 28 mpg. I hear that's great for a 9-5. Purchasing the 9-3 with the 2.0 I had thought it would clear 30+ mpg hwy easy but it's not even getting close. In fact the 9-5 is heavier 2.3 motor and a 4 speed is out running the 9-3. Both cars are using 93oct and it's the same rout driven between the two. It's U.S. hwy's being used not interstates where the cars don't get over 70mph. The 9-3 should be destroying the 9-5 in mpg. I had the 9-3 since new and it always got 26mpg hwy it's the reason why I was looking elsewhere for the problem, as in suspecting the 2.8 ecu. I know it would be a heck of chore getting the 2.0 to run on it but i do clearly see unburnt fuel all over the back of the car since day one.
The overall performance of the car is perfect other than it being a 2.0 it runs flawless. I'll pull the plugs on the car but I can't see it being the cause being from day one it's never got over 27. The 9-3 motor is alien to me dose it have a fuel pressure regulator like the c900? What is the gizmo that monitors fuel flow I need to swap it out cause it's pushing way to much.
Modding out the spg I was using 30lb injectors and the unburnt fuel soot that was all over the back of the car after 100 mile drive on the hwy is the exact same that's all over the back of the 9-3 after a tank of fuel.
