AC serviced after a leak : not very cold after. Posted by magalar [Email] (#1325) [Profile/Gallery] (more from magalar) on Sun, 6 Jun 2021 18:22:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi erveryone,
My 9-3 V6 had a leak at the expansion valve; I had to cut the tubes of the evaporator core from inside the car to remove the badly corroded leaking valve (located in the wiper cowl area.)
The job is DIY friendly, but I had to go the a good shop for AC service. AC works now, but not as cold as I remember. Pressure is 16 to 19 bar (according to Tech2 data from the pressure sensor). I noticed the radiator fans are running full blast while there is way more heat under the hood than before (car was just idling in the driveway). I can't see any obvious leak.
My question is : what if the shop filled the system with too much R134a? I wonder because the correct amount for a 4-cyl is 680 g while my V6 should use 650 g. Is a 30 g overfill sufficient to raise temperature and pressure enough to cause this reduction in cooling performance?
