08 9-3 vert potential purchase - advice? Posted by Chip Fichot [Email] (#2597) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Chip Fichot) on Wed, 3 May 2023 07:01:00 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi - I'm going on Friday to potentially purchase the '08 vert that was listed on Monday in the classifieds here with just under 20K miles. This would be my second (functional/driveable) SAAB, replacing my '03 9-5 Linear.
I ran a carfax and the mileage checks out. It was a rental in Hawaii for its first year which put on half the miles and then it seems like it was someone's vacation/summer car in Cape Cod, then moved to NJ (doesn't list a change of owners with that move) and driven very little. It was recently purchased at a charity auction as noted in the ad.
I checked the GM website and it has had the airbag recall completed, as well as the seat belt tensioner. I didn't get date codes for the tires but they are not original, all match and per the seller have about 80% tread left.
The only thing of any concern on the carfax is several failed emissions tests going back to 2025 in both MA and NJ (where I live), but it notes that it was always followed by a pass - we have emissions inspections every 2 years here. It does note that the pass was at an Inspection Station, so it doesn't look like it was a service shop (so no "how much do I have to pay you to pass it?") My thought and the seller's is that could just have to do with sitting so much, but if anyone has any thoughts on that, I'd appreciate it.
Also would appreciate any general things to look for particular to this model (also should note that it's a 2.0 T which isn't in the ad).
If I do buy it I intend to get it into an indy shop and have all the fluids changed like I did with my 9-5 which also had about 20K when I bought it 4 years ago, and to have it generally gone over. I will replace the plugs and ignition cassette myself.
I also was curious if these newer models might still be serviced at some former Saab dealers (the carfax notes that this was serviced at Park Avenue Acura in NJ which I assume was Park Avenue SAAB at one point but that was in 2018).
TIA
