So far so good- I have had several starts at one week intervals and the car has started fine. One of those weeks the front passenger side lock did pop up on its own. I opened the door and locked it, and then a few days later the car started fine. I'm fairly certain the lock popping up on its own is merely anecdotal with regard to ending up with a dead battery. There is likely some other parasitic drain which was never an issue when the car was driven daily.
Thinking back to last summer, just prior to installing the new battery I did see "lock system failure" on the SID and then it went away. Locks were working normally at that time. A failing battery IMO can cause gremlins to occur. After swapping the battery I had no blower motor for the climate system and only the driver's side front door speaker was distorted. Disconnected the battery for ten or so minutes while jumpering positive and negative cables (saw this mentioned on Saab and BMW forums), and then reconnected the battery. Climate system blower motor was working fine afterward but driver's side front door speaker was still distorted. When I pan the balance to the passenger side front speaker or to just the rear speakers the sound is clear after turning up the volume a bit. Car has the optional 13 speaker factory sound system. Reading that AMP1 under the driver's seat could have an issue, but it was perfectly fine prior to installing the new battery. For now I just have the sound panned to the rear speakers. It's not a bad sound system for 2003. CD player sometime skips until things are warmed up, but it has done this for 12+ years at this point.
