According to my mechanic you should be able to stand outside the car and push the remote 5 times and it should work. As long as the alarm is not already set on the car. I.E. you didn't set the alarm and then lost your key fob. I am in the process of trying this myself seeing as how i purchased my '99 9-3 with out any key fob. So I bought a couple of 9-3 key fobs off of e-bay and I plan on trying this on the weekend. Just make sure you buy two fobs before going through this process, so you have a spare.
