Here in Florida probably 30-40% of the cars have the windows tinted. The tinting will cut down on interior parts cracking and fading. Tinting will reduce the amount of heat in the car considerably (don't leave a dog in a hot car, regardless of tinting or not) The tinting is in my opinion a necessity in hot humid climates because most car air conditioning systems are marginal at best with the extreme humidity. Our 9-5 has marginal air conditioning even with the tinting! (Compared to other cars we have owned) One downside to tinting: At night your vision will be reduced through the tinted glass. Also, when it is raining at night, you will see reflections of light you didn't see before.....but you do get used to this.
Overall, I wouldn't have a car without the tinting.....and I will give you a reason you probably haven't thought about. If you are in an accident, the tinting, which is a film, keeps the glass from coming apart. I know, as several years ago my VW GTI was hit in the rear by a 20 year old Ford LTD who admitted to going 45 mph and he never hit the brakes. The GTI was several feet shorter after the accident, but not one piece of glass went anywhere.
You probably want to check your local laws as some states have rules governing tinting of windows. Hope this helps.
