As much as I'd like to help. I love the cars, and think of myself as very knowledgeable of them, but a technician I am not. I haven't encountered the noise at shutdown, but I do not own a V6. I'm not sure if the noise that you speak of is exclusive to the V6 or if it is across the model line. I'll ask one of our techs, but I honestly have not heard this problem voiced before.
As far as the noise on start-up, I know that it has something to do with the climate control, but because the sound is not continuous and only happens once every fifteen startups or so, it is tough to diagnose. The first few times that I heard the noise, I thought that I was hearing things. I couldn't imagine that it was coming from my 9-5, I swore that it was from one of the neighbor's houses.
All of the service department thought that I was crazy when I tried to explain the noise to them; not to mention, they couldn't duplicate the sound. Only when our Saab service rep's 9-5 made the noise, did anyone believe me. He told me that as soon as he figured out what the problem was that I would be the first to know.
As I said, I'll keep you posted.
Cheers,
Brian.
