Car and Driver (Road and Track-same publisher) have respected SAAB for years. I've owned two 900's and am now driving a 9-5. I can say they have coverd the cars and their evolution over the years consistently and fairly. They have always thought "weird" is good when SAAB applies it (ie: ignition on the floor console). Last year they did a comparison of the 9-5 Areo vs. Volvo bi-turbo T-whatever flagship sedan. The result was the 9-5 was the winner. I won't bore you with the details but the article was comprehensive, objective, accurate, and well written. One of the reasons I'm in a 9-5 now is due to their coverage and "respect" for the car and company.
The 10 best is a different kettle of fish. There are lots of cars that could/should be nominated. Please review their well documented process for nomination. Part of that process is subjective. I can tell you the 4 cyl power plant is probably the biggest reason it is not considered. The reviewers probably consider a $40K car should have a "real" motor in it. You won't see the underpowered Acura RL in it as it should have a V8 like those it wants to compete with in that price range.
Remember, those cars are THEIR 10 best. Not yours. Enjoy the articles.
