Hi davec!
Yes, the 17" shnowtires would have better traction than your all-year! The ONLY time you'll have less/no traction, is in rain, when there's more water on the road, than the wider 17" can drain.
It's a TOTAL misconception among people that a wider tire will have less grip on snowy, icy and moist roads...
