Coolknight - questions about Hirsch seats (long)

This morning I had a depressing discussion with the local Saab tech rep about the seat covers in my 2001 Aero Wagon. I just can't get comfortable in the driver's seat when I am wearing only a thin shirt (it's tolerable with a jacket). The lower horizontal seam bothers my back, especially on long road trips. The rep said that there was nothing wrong with the cover, and that replacing it would in all probability not help.
He also told me that the new Aero seats (made by Recaro) are $3500 USD each, MSRP!!!
Since I have had no luck finding aftermarket fitted seat covers here in the USA (Wet Okole does not make them) I am considering the Hirsch sport covers and pads. Questions:
How firm are they compared to the stock 2001 Aero seats? Are they comfortable on long trips? (Maybe I should test drive a Viggen to try them out?)
Does the vertical seam in the back rest bother your back? It seems that your spine would rub, and that is what I am trying to fix.
Does the color match the original seats pretty closely? I would only replace the front seat covers, so they need to be pretty close in appearance.
Is the job something I can do at home, or would I need to take the car to a dealer or an auto upholstery shop?
Any other comments? I have e-mailed Hirsch, but have not yet received a reply.
Thanks a bunch - I really want to get this problem fixed. I love the car, except for the seats....
