I have both as well, and after a year or so with the 9-5's, like B Millar says they are pretty solid. I wouldn't worry about the suspension for awhile, probably it will need shock and struts around 100k or so, but it is light years ahead of my OG 9-3 in terms of ride and handling. Feels less harsh with the 17's and tighter suspension.
As far as issues for a sample size of two, we had a '04 Aero for a year and about 12k miles (it was totaled and we got another Aero and '05) that had the following go under warranty:
- New AC compressor under warranty due to a Freon leak
- Alternator died which caused the battery to fail
- Tensioner pulley, b/c it was becoming noisy
- Coolant Bypass valve gave out
- Front trans mount was replaced due to stress cracks
We've only had the 2005 for a few months, but it feels like it had better care than our 2004. Issues have been:
- ACC panel was replaced due to a couple of the lights behind the buttons going out
- Battery died
Congratulations on your new purchase and Enjoy!
Best regards,
Don
