Unfortunately, those who write about a contrived shortage, or it being a deliberate attempt to creat demand for the car, must either not be in business themselves, or if they are, think that the auto business operates on a different set of rules than theirs. Fact is, it's not a sale for Saab until they ship the car to the dealer.Saab is in the midst of a transition from a low volume "boutique" maker of(do not want to use the Q word here),specialty cars,to competing head to head with BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and a host of Japanese manufacturers. It is very possible that their production and distribution systems are still operating like they have in the past, and that the market demand for the redesigned cars has started to kick in.This type of temporary shortage would happen in just about any manufacturing business, and one as dependent on outside suppliers like the auto business is that much more subject to problems like this.
Conspiracy to withhold cars? C'mon, get real. They do not generate revenue if they do that. Fact is, where would you hide those cars that supposedly are finished and being withheld, and how much would that cost you. I guarantee you, GM's accountants would never ever let something like this happen.
