According to the dealer the 'proper' fix is to replace the alarm siren unit, but many on this list including myself have just replaced the batteries and all is well. The other option as another poster suggested, is to disable the alarm with the computer (Tech II) at an indy or the dealer. I would not get a used unit, as you'll just be dealing with it again later. My batteries lasted eight years or so, but they all die eventually.
I would try the battery replacement first as they are less than $20 shipped from Mouser.com or the like. Here is a link that another poster maintains with great pictures and description on the removal soldering etc...
I removed the siren and took it to an electrical repair shop to have them soldered in, as I do not trust my circuit board soldering skills. The technician told me that it was important to also 're-flow' the solder joints for all of stress points on the board. This was important point I believe for the fix working, and it is not on that is covered often here. The 'stress point's' were basically all of the pieces on the board that stuck up off the board high enough to hang up on re-assembly.
Hope this helps,
Don
