I don't understand marketing / customer relations thinking. Sometimes it seems pretty dumb to me.

Yesterday I took my Aero for its 20K mile service to one of the better Saab dealers in the area. I go out of my way to take my service to them - it is a good hour, each way, out of my way to go there, even though there is another Saab dealer that I drive right past twice every day on my way to work.

When I was at this dealer serveral months ago for my 10K service they gave me a loaner for several days because the a/c compressor needed replacement and they had to get another one. The loaner was a spanking new 9-5 with only 15 miles on the odometer! What amazing service! Given that the dealer where I bought the car doesn't offer service loaners at all, I was really impressed.

This time, the driver's side wiper blade was disintegrating - splitting, and when I told that to the service writer, he said "Wiper blades are only warranteed for 16k miles". What, am I supposed to make a special run to the dealer for a lousy pair of wiper blades? If not, am I supposed to feel good because they gouge me on the price?

One time they give me a brand new $30,000 car for a week, the next time they won't deal with a faulty $5 item. ??? This makes sense? Seems to me the refusal to deal with a disintigrating $5 blade almost wiped out all the good will of the $30K loaner.

Why do they have a warrantee expiration date on a service item that doesn't coincide with a scheduled service?
What is the point of the 20K service check list item "inspect wiper blades" if they aren't going to do anything about it?
CHEAP CHEAP. First they won't take care of a $5 problem while the car's less than a year old, and then, they want five times the cost for it.

It would be far more intelligent to both reduce the price of replacement blades to something a little more reasonable - maybe $12 - so they don't come across as greedy price gougers and to also take care of them during the first year of ownership of the car.

KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE BALL!
