Me thinks you doth protest too much. The links you have listed in your post all appear to have a vested interest. i.e., selling you a more expensive product than what is necessary (or, in my opinion, appropriate).
You bring up the exact points I find important. Tire grading is what I look to, either an AA or A traction grading, and an A heat rating. The treadwear number I prefer is low, not high.
I have had several cars with Michelin V rated OE tires. I have found these to be some of the worst tires upon which I have driven, and always been happy to replace them. I have found H rated Dunlop, Sumatomo, Pirelli, and Yokohama tires superior to the V rated OE tires.
Anyway, that is my experience. I don't think it is "Bad tire advice." Perhaps, though, there is objective discussion available on the matter. Are you aware of any substantive body of such? Maybe you could provide a link.
