Here are a few interesting things I've learned about programming the ACC that are not in the manual. This is on a 2000 Aero with recently replaced ECU (recall 726).
1) Programming the system for "Low Temp Mode" as covered under Programming II, prevents Econ from being programmed as the manual default mode in Programming I. Basically, if Low Temp mode is programmed (i.e. A/C compressor engaged when outside temp is > 55F), then Econ mode seems to get automatically selected based on temp regardless of any manual setting under Programming I. When the system is programmed for "Normal Mode" (i.e. A/C compressor engaged when outside temo is > 41F), then the manual programming of Econ mode works correctly. This seems like a bug in the system to me.
2) Here's a nifty undocumented feature related to Programming I. You can program the system to stay off at startup, and then turn on with programmed manual settings instead of auto. Here's how. First turn the system on and set your preferred manual settings. Save these as usual by pressing Off + Rear-def together. Then hit the Off button and save that by pressing Off + Rear-def again. Now when you start the car, the ACC will stay off. To turn it on with your manual settings, just press the Off button. (That button should really be labelled "On/Off".) Turning the system on via the Auto button will still result in full auto operation, ignoring any programmed manual settings, so you just have to remember to use the Off button to turn the system on. Note: This may not work on all cars, as I'm almost certain that it didn't work on my car prior to the new ECU being installed.
Note that this is important to me because I live in a dry climate where the A/C compressor is almost never needed for dehumidification. Thus I want the compressor to stay off unless needed. I wish the ACC was smart enough to figure out if the compressor was really needed or not, rather than blindly looking at the outside temp. They should have included an interior humidity sensor in the system.
