1999-2009 [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
Just completed a 1700 mile trip in my 2002 Arc 3.0t V6, my first Saab. Given recent board questions regarding cross country appeal of the car, wanted to give a quick assessment. The more I drive a 9-5, the more I enjoy and appreciate everything that went into this vehicle.
- Power: This car as superb passing power. Narrow 2-lane roads offer minimal opportunities to pass, so getting up to speed quickly is the only safe way to do it. It's very easy to go from 45 to 90mph, close the gap and get around virtually anyone any time.
- Economy: 25-27mpg on the freeway, 75mph
- Comfort: The seats are set-n-forget comfortable. Superb support. Cabin seems very quiet, too, minimal wind/road noise. Fast heater. Great visibility, light open and airy.
- Ergos: Loved the night panel, spotlight, audio controls on the wheel, double visors, vented moonroof cover (air without glare), folding rear seats/cargo room, CD/Tape Player for audio books/cd's, radio station finder, pocket on front seat cushion (great for gloves), dimming mirrors, auto heat/defrost at startup, trip computer
- Safety: Handling was very responsive, gave great sense of security. That plus the strength of the vehicle made me feel at ease. On Star, didn't have to use it, but nice to have there.
This sedan is just a great highway vehicle and this trip reinforced the buying decision. Compliments on the way from various rest stops, too. Puts the lie to "uninspired styling".
Suggestions for future improvements:
- one touch up windows
- more space for coins
- Compass on mirror
- Altimeter on trip computer (a nice new novelty)
I'm hooked!
