If you look at the chart at the bottom of the page at this link:

you will see an xxW40 oil can mean almost ZERO difference at 100 Celsius...whereas a XXW60 oil will get you a minimum 40% increase in viscosity...and a maximum of 200% greater viscosity at temperature...Compared to an engine change.. I would say it is worth he $40 to try this...even before the oil pump.
