There is a fuel pump assembly in the top of the tank. Most mechanics will not replace just the pump, but the whole assembly. He / You will probably have to source an assembly, either rebuilt or new or used. You could call Goldwing Saab and see how much they are getting for one. New from Saab they are a bit pricy. If you rebuild the assembly yourself you can get it down to about $50 if you can find a pump on sale. Walbro (I think also Bosch) are what I have used and have rebuilt the assembly by hand. Not too bad, but have to make sure you get hose that is amble to go into the gas tank. Otherwise, replace the assembly that takes about 10 minutes with any competent mechanic.

Put back seats up, remove cover, remove ring (tool or two screw drivers and some hammers to turn retaining ring. VERY CAREFULLY remove in and out plastic Ls. Remove assembly by turning and lifting out. Put new assembly in rever order. I like putting a very small amount of lubricate on the Plastic Ls O ring. Put ring back on and tighten. Some put in a new sealing O ring, but I never had to . Put cover back on and seats back. If it does not have the metal bracket additional hold down add one, get one from Saab and also install. This will prevent the Ls coming out if the plastic holders fail. This has happend on two card to me so far. Don't cost much.

If you rebuild the assembly it will take a little bit of time, not sure if there is a SIY on the site somewhere.
