185k on the car, original fuel pump. What is unusual is the the pump died when running - usually they just die and do not restart after a shutdown.
I expect the mechanic to just replace the whole pump, will probably cost me about $500 (~$300 for the pump, 2 hrs labor) but I have not got the estimate yet. I wish I could do the $50 rebuild but unfortunately the car died very far from home.
Had a scary moment while driving MINI Cooper in heavy snow in NH yesterday on my semi-bald summer tires (just took off the snow tires last week - doh!). The car started to loose control when passing and switching lanes. I could feel the ESP to engage brakes and the car straightened itself. It was not too bad and most likely the car would straighten without the ESP just as well - but I was glad the ESP was there. Slowed down to about 40 mph after that. I heard on the news that a bus flipped over in the same area.
