Ahh, ok, so it started out as a cracked flex plate?
Probably it has allowed the whole converter package to slightly wobble gouging the bronze bushing to the point where it lost its grip on the oil pump housing and/or the extra trauma of you trying to fit the converter sideways ;o) broke the camels back.
You are probably lucky that you didn't get it back in and all bolted up since that bushing would have giving you headaches right away anyway.
Since that outer part of oil pump has been used since 94 and up in the NG900/OG9-3 and 9-5 you should be able to find a used from somewhere if they are willing to part with just the cover.
The complete oil pump is different though through the years.
