I suppose the springs are quite a bit more robust than a tape measure retractor. I'm not afraid of the detonator with the electrical contact disconnected per the WIS instructions. And I do have a full polycarbonate face shield for flying springs. The simplest solution would be to get the end of the belt disconnected from the takeup roller, then wind the roller a couple of turns to get some preloading, then re-attach the belt. Just like fixing an old roll up window shade.
Yah, too simple. I bet the metal armature holding the roller is stamped together and you can't get the roller free to figure out how to un-anchor the belt. Won't know till I take it out of the car and study it. Last thing I want to do is risk damage to any part of the belt restraint system. I do wish to remain in control behind the wheel in the event of a crash!
