roof vs hitch Posted by FrancoisM [Email] (#1149) [Profile/Gallery] (more from FrancoisM) on Sun, 6 May 2012 16:35:21 In Reply to: Re: Best bike rack for an '03 9-5?, Slug [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 6 May 2012 15:39:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Here is my point of view about these two options.
Roof :
. Air drag : direct impact on fuel consumption
. High is the air : Girlfriend not able to reach the bikes. Risk of scratching the roof.
. Clearance : take care while entering parking lots etc. Easy to forget!
. wind noise : keep the moonroof closed.
. Bugs : bikes get covered with stains of crashed bugs
Hitch:
. Access to the truck
. Mountain bikes with non triangular shape of frame may be trikky for traditionnal hitch support. Requires a plateform type of support.
There are certainely some aspects I am forgetting...
Now, it is up to you to choose. Good luck,
Francois
