Oil leak getting expensive Posted by thatbobguy [Email] (#1370) [Profile/Gallery] (more from thatbobguy) on Tue, 8 May 2012 22:16:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My 2000 Aero (170k) I bought last year came equipped with an oil leak that drips on the exhaust, causing smoke - the seller thought was the oil pan gasket.
Since I wanted to get the pan dropped anyway to do a sludge check it didn't seem to big a problem.
My mechanic saw that the oil sensor was drooling too, so also did that.
No improvement at all.
This year he found leaks in the crankshaft seal and a cracked oil pump seal, torqued the head bolts and did the PCV6 upgrade - I had thought the PCV was already done because the top hose looked new - someone had just replaced the hose only!
Fewer oil leaks now but the one that drips on the exhaust - still dripping - still smoking.
After a fast run, when I park the car, plumes of smoke are rising from the sides of the hood - I'm afraid to park it anywhere for fear somebody's gonna call 911 and the bomb squad's gonna tow it and detonate my car!
I'm ready to give up - my shop suspects the main seal and tells me it'll cost more than my car is worth.
Any other simpler to fix oil leaks that he may have missed that would specifically drip onto the exhaust?
Anybody make an Oil Diaper?
