I've heard that using cruise in hilly conditions is not as good as easing up the throttle and letting speed decrease on hills. I suspect the mileage would be marginally better. I'm the opposite, I can't stand driving at different speeds. I take a drive from NE Ohio to suburban NYC at least twice a year and it is hilly. Car gets 27 - 29 mpg depending on heavily loaded it is. If I were alone and set the cruise at say 60 mph (too slow IMO) I'd probably get 30 - 32 mpg.
